COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Virginia Tech women's tennis freshmen Lily Hackbirth and Virginia Hobbs kicked off their collegiate careers over the weekend at the 2019 Bedford Cup.
Hackbirth claimed her first career win as she battled Loyola's Jenna Granato to three sets. After winning the first set 6-1, Hackbirth faltered in the second as Granto held on to win it 7-5. In the super tiebreak, Hackbirth rolled past Granato 10-3.
The Hokies will be back on the court the first weekend of October as they host the Hokie Fall Invite, Oct. 4-6 at Burrows-Burleston Tennis Center.
