Senior S Reggie Floyd to wear No. 1 jersey all season for Hokies

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced Monday that S Reggie Floyd was selected by a vote of his teammates to wear the No. 1 jersey for the entire 2019 season. The squad was instructed to choose an individual for the honor who epitomizes the Virginia Tech work ethic, a team-first attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to help himself and his teammates improve on a daily basis.

Floyd (6-0, 222) – One of only five seniors on Tech's roster, Floyd ranked second on Tech's defense with 88 total tackles and tied for second with 9.5 TFL as a junior in 2018. A second-team All-ACC preseason selection by Phil Steele, he has also been named a fourth-team preseason All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports. He prepped at Stonewall Jackson High School, the same alma mater as CB Greg Stroman and DT Tim Settle, who were both drafted by the Washington Redskins following their Tech careers. In 38 career games (25 starts) for the Hokies, Floyd owns five interceptions for 115 yards with one TD, in addition to 161 tackles (100 solo) and a pair of forced fumbles.

The No. 1 jersey has been worn by numerous players who have embodied the Virginia Tech spirit of teamwork over the years, including the likes of future NFL draft picks DB Antone Exum, Jr., WR Isaiah Ford, DB Eric Green and DB Macho Harris.

Tech opens the season on Saturday at Boston College. That game will be broadcast on ACC Network. Make sure your provider carries ACC Network. Fans can visit HokieSports.com to check providers in their area.
