For the first time since 2008, the Virginia Tech softball team finished the season ranked, coming in at No. 23 in the USA Today/NFCA poll and at No. 21 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball, as announced by the organizations on Tuesday.

In a huge turn of events, Tech, which had a losing record in 2018, put together one of its best seasons ever in the first year of the Pete D'Amour era, finishing with a 47-11, 20-4 ACC record.

With wrapping up the year inside the top 25, the Hokies were ranked for a school-record 11 consecutive weeks in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll from March 25-June 11. The previous high was set in 2007 for 10 weeks.

The ACC regular-season champs and Coastal Division winners, Tech went to its first regional since 2015 and picked up its first victory since 2014, taking down Illinois in Lexington, Kentucky. The final ranking marks just the third time (2007, 2008, 2019) in school history that Tech has finished ranked to close a season.
