Amanda Hollandsworth, a former member of the Virginia Tech women's golf team and two-time graduate of the university, is set to compete in the 74th U.S. Women's Open Championship. The four-day national championship will be played May 30-June 2 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.
Hollandsworth earned her place in the event by winning a sectional qualifier in Springfield, Virginia on April 30. She becomes the first Virginia Tech women's golfer to play in a professional major, although Hollandsworth achieved the opportunity as an amateur.
The 2019 U.S. Women's Open Championship will play the par 71, 6,535-yard, Seth Raynor-designed Country Club of Charleston course for the first time. The USGA hosted the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur on the course, which opened in 1900.
The 156 competitors include 47 of the top 50 golfers in the world. After Friday's second round, the field will be cut to the low 60 scorers and ties. The field consists of golfers from 27 nations, with 54 golfers hailing from the United States and 23 from the Republic of Korea.
Hollandsworth is enjoying a spectacular spring. Along with qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open, the Floyd, Virginia native tied for fifth at the NCAA Norman Regional in early May, earning a spot in the NCAA Championships. She finished fifth in the nationals, the highest finish of any Atlantic Coast Conference student-athlete. And to top off the month of May, Hollandsworth earned a master's degree from Virginia Tech.
Hollandsworth will begin competition on Thursday, May 30 at 9:12 a.m. EDT from the 10th tee. She will be grouped with Babe Liu of Taiwan and LPGA member Charlotte Thomas of England. The trio will tee off for the second round at 2:57 p.m. EDT from the first tee on Friday.
The tournament will be televised by Fox and FS1. The first two rounds will be on FS1 from 2-7 p.m. EDT and the final two rounds will be televised by FOX from 2-7 p.m. Live streaming will also be available from the FOX Sports app and FOXSports.com. USGA.com will live stream each day of the championship.
