Biddison hits Tech’s fourth grand slam of the year in 7-0 victory over Marshall

BLACKSBURG – For the fourth time this season, the Virginia Tech baseball team hit a grand slam, this one off the bat of Nick Biddison, and six Hokies combined on a six-hitter as the team defeated Marshall in non-conference action at English Field at Union Park Tuesday night. With the victory, it also marked the program's 500th win at the facility.

Leading 1-0 in the second, Biddison came to the plate with the bases loaded and blasted a ball over the left field fence. It was the freshman's fifth long ball of the season, the second in as many games, his second grand slam of the year and the team's fourth. Since Tech joined the ACC (2005), the four grand slams this year ties the most ever hit in a single season first set by the 2010 squad.

That was more than enough run support for the Tech pitching staff. Ryan Metz, who won his first collegiate game in his first collegiate start, tossed two innings and struck out one. Jack Dellinger (2.0 IP/2 K), Ryan Okuda (3.0/3), Graham Seitz, Connor Yoder (1.0/1) and Nolan Wilson (1.0/1) finished off the game preserving the shutout.

Nick Owens, one of three Hokies with a pair of hits, singled with the bases loaded in the eighth frame to tack on two more insurance runs. Jack Owens and Dalton Harum also each had two hits and both scored twice. Carson Taylor put the first run on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first.

Marshall (18-14) had two guys, Erik Rodriguez and Zach Inskeep, with multi-hit nights.
