BLACKSBURG – During the month of April, the Virginia Tech baseball team is scheduled for 19 games with 14 of those being contested on the road – including three of its four ACC weekend series. In contrast, Tech will close out the regular season in May without having to leave Blacksburg, with a seven-game homestand.
The Hokies will open the month today at VMI, a 6 p.m. first pitch, before heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Wake Forest at David F. Couch Ballpark this upcoming weekend.

The nonconference tilt at VMI is the first of two games with the Keydets in 2019, as they will make a return trip to English Field at Union Park on April 23.
The series history between the two programs is lengthy as this will be the 180th all-time meeting in a series that began in 1897. Only the Virginia series is longer, in terms of games played, at 187.
Tech owns a 129-49-1 mark against the Keydets, the most versus any opponent in the Hokies' history, and includes a 45-28 mark in Lexington. Unfortunately, the last two trips there have resulted in Tech losses (April 25, 2018 – 9-7; and March 29, 2016 – 5-3).
The Hokies last win at Gray-Minor Stadium was April 23, 2013 – a 9-6 victory when Tech broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning on a two-RBI triple by Andrew Rash that scored both Mark Zaguins and Tyler Horan.
VMI enters the game with a 6-22 overall mark, but ended a six-game losing streak on Sunday with a 5-4 home victory over Samford – just their third home win of the season (3-11).
Tech takes a 16-12 mark up to Lexington along with its own six-game losing streak. However, the team is 12-4 in nonconference games, is 5-4 on the road and is 7-4 away from Blacksburg.
