Hokies host UAB, travel to No. 29 Syracuse and No. 43 Boston College

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team is set for three matches over the next five days as the Hokies host UAB on Wednesday, March 13 before taking to the road for a pair of ranked ACC matches beginning with No. 29 Syracuse on Friday and No. 43 Boston College on Sunday.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is coming off a 5-2 decision on the road over William & Mary last week. Tech secured the doubles point to take the early lead and secured the win in singles with victories from freshmen Samantha Gillas and Rita Pinto and sophomores Elizabet Danialova and Nika Kozar.
 
Entering into the week, the Hokies' Natalie Novotna is ranked No. 101 in the ITA singles standings. She had a big win earlier this month, knocking off FSU's 32nd-ranked Carla Touly. Gillas has also been strong for the Hokies this spring with a 9-4. Kozar has an 8-5 mark while Novotna is 6-5.  
 
THE BLAZERS
UAB is coming off a 4-3 win over North Alabama. The Blazers won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from Marlene Herrmann, Alex Shchipakina, Domonika Hrabalova and Megan Bertrands. Shchipakina leads the Blazers this spring with an 8-4 record, including 7-4 at the two.
 
THE ORANGE
Syracuse knocked off FAU 4-1 the last time out. The Orange won the doubles point and got wins from Sofya Golubovskaya, Guzal Yusupova and Libi Mesh to secure the win. FAU's point came at the one were Gabriela Knutson fell in three-sets. Entering the week No. 42 Knutson is ranked No. 42 in the ITA standings while Miranda Ramirez is No. 77. The two are also ranked as a pair at No. 70.
 
THE EAGLES
Boston College will face Binghamton on Saturday before taking on the Hokies on Sunday. The Eagles fell to Clemson 6-1 last weekend on the road. BC's Natasha Irani had the win for the Eagles to prevent the shutout. Boston College has two players ranked in the latest ITA standings with No. 67 Yufei Long and No. 75 Kylie Wilcox.
 
UP NEXT: The Hokies will remain on the road next weekend as well, traveling to Georgia Tech on Friday, March 22 before making the trip to NC State on Sunday.
