COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell to Missouri 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Tech (1-3, 0-0 ACC) fell behind after Missouri (4-1) secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Freshman Samantha Gillas picked up Tech's lone singles victory of the day. After losing 6-3 in the first set, Gillas was able to rally 7-5 in the second to force a third. She downed Missouri's Serena Nash 6-1 in the decider to pick up her third singles victory of the season.
On court two, Nina Sorkin battled against Missouri's No. 60 Lisa Fukutoku forcing a tie breaker in the first set, but ultimately falling 7-6(5), 6-1 to give Missouri the 2-0 lead.
At the four Shene Disbergen fell 6-2 in the first set before winning the second 6-2 to force a third but was unable to come up with the victory giving Missouri the 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Nika Kozar battled against Mackenzy Middlebrooks at one, playing three sets. In the opening set Kozar was able to win 6-4 but faltered in the second 6-3. Middlebrooks was able to win the third 6-2 to give Missouri the team victory.
The Hokies remain on the road, traveling to Clemson for a 3 p.m. match on Friday, February 8.
