BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech runner Peter Seufer and the Virginia Tech cross country coaching staff departed Blacksburg on Wednesday for Madison, Wisconsin – the site of the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, received an individual bid to the championships from the NCAA cross country selection committee this past Saturday. Eighteen teams automatically qualified for the event by finishing first or second at the nine regional meets and then 13 teams received at-large bids. In addition, 38 individuals – including Seufer – were selected to participate through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.

Seufer has enjoyed a dominating season on the course. In late October, he won the ACC individual crown, pulling away from Wake Forest's Zach Facioni in the final few hundred meters to become the third Tech runner ever to win an ACC cross country title. Also, this past Friday, he finished second at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He narrowly missed winning the meet, finishing less than a second behind winner James Sugira of Eastern Kentucky.
Seufer, a two-time All-ACC performer and a two-time All-Southeast Region choice, has finished either first or second in each of the past four meets in which he has run. He will be searching for his first All-America honor in cross country and hopes to become the seventh All-American in men's cross country at Virginia Tech.
The NCAA Championships will be held Saturday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The women's race begins at 11:45 a.m. ET, while the men's race starts at 12:45 p.m.
