Hokies set for 51st Annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships

BLACKSBURG - Five members of the Virginia Tech men's tennis team will travel to Athens, Georgia this weekend to participate in the 51st Annual Southern Intercollegiate Tournament Hosted by the UGA Bulldogs at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginnings Friday, Sept. 7th and ending with finals on Monday, Sept. 10th.

Returners Carlo Donato, Jason Kros, Ryan Kros and Chase Bernstine will take the court at the Southern Intercollegiate for the Hokies for the second consecutive year, in addition to freshman Evan Fragistas making his collegiate debut. The Hokies join a field of over 150 student-athletes representing 24 universities.

Play is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m. with the first two rounds of singles matches. Day One action is set to conclude with consolation of first round singles in Divisions I and II at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Division III participants will begin at 8:30 am at the Intramural Courts.

Fragistas, Donato and Jason Kros are slated for the Division I flight on Friday. Donato is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. while Fragistas follows with his first draw beginning at 10:30. Jason Kros is the last Hokie to take the court with his opening round match tabbed for 1 p.m. Ryan Kros and Bernstein will compete in the Division II flight Friday afternoon with Ryan leading off the Hokies in an 8 a.m. match. Bernstine is scheduled for noon.

Doubles will begin on Saturday.

The Hokies will be facing student athletes from: Appalachian State, Arkansas, Barry University, Columbus State, Dartmouth, East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Gwinnett, Kennesaw State, Lander, Lipscomb, Mercer, Point University, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, UCF, UNC Asheville, UNC Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington, UT-Chattanooga and Virginia Tech.
