BLACKSBURG- Over the past few years, Virginia Tech has had several players go on to compete at high levels in North American soccer including having three players selected in the MLS Draft in the last four editions. Most recently, goalkeeping standout Ben Lundgaard was selected with the 21st pick by the Columbus Crew in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
Other Hokies who have continued their careers include; Elias Tamburini, Devante Dubose, Collin Verfurth and Forrest White.
Ben Lundgaard (2014-17) – The 21st pick in this year's draft, Lundgaard signed with the Columbus Crew before going on loan to Indy Eleven of USL. Just weeks into his career, the 6-foot-5 goalkeeper suffered a hand injury that required surgery that kept him on the sidelines. Fast forward a few months and the Greenville, Delaware native is back to full training and has been available on the bench at Eleven games going as an unused substitute. The Eleven sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, a position that would see the club reach the playoffs.
Elias Tamburini (2016-2017) – A recent graduate, Tamburini signed with Icelandic club UMF Grindavik, which competes in the top division on July 21. He has already made his debut, playing 90 minutes at his customary left back position in Grindavik's 3-0 league victory over Keflavik.
Devante Dubose (2010-2013) – Perhaps the best athlete to ever don a Virginia Tech soccer kit, Dubose was picked in the fourth round of the 2014 MLS Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes. Today, Dubose applies his trade with Phoenix Rising FC of the USL, which currently occupies second place in the Western Conference.
Dubose has played in 11 games making nine starts during the 2018 season, playing alongside soccer legend and Phoenix co-owner Didier Drogba.
Collin Verfurth (2014-2017) – A fixture in the Hokies' midfield for the past four years, Verfurth has continued his playing career with Northern Virginia United, a club competing in the NPSL. NVU sits in second place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Division.
Current Tech defender Will Mejia has also been a part of NVU's inaugural season.
Forrest White (2014-2017) – Remembered for his curled effort from the top of the box to defeat Indiana and send the Hokies to the Elite Eight in 2016, White joined the NPSL's Charlottesville Alliance FC this summer, finishing fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Division.
In Charlottesville, he teamed up with junior winger James Kasak.
