Hokies excel in the classroom, earn team recognition

The IWLCA has named 339 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2017-18 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse program must have posted a 3.0 or higher GPA for the academic year.
 
As a team, the Hokies were recognized for their continued hard work and dedication in the classroom.
 
Additionally the IWLCA honored 462 student-athletes from 105 different institutions on the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. Three Hokies, Marissa Davey, Meagh Graham and Kristen Kohles were were included on that list.
 
Davey, a senior chemical engineering student started 20 of the Hokies' 21 games during their historic 2018 season scoring 44 points from her midfield position.
 
Graham, a graduate student in the instructional technology program played every game in goal, earning 14 wins in goal – a new program record. Graham's career concluded with 192 ground balls, the most ever by a Hokie. In addition, she owns the program record for lowest goal against average (9.64) set during the 2017 season.
 
Kohles graduated in May with a degree in human nutrition, foods and exercise. A starting defender, Kohles forced 17 turnovers on the season and grabbed 25 ground balls. In the ACC tournament against UNC, Kohles scored her first career goal on the only shot attempt of her career.
