Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team is set for a pair of ACC matches this weekend. Hosting Pitt in a 3 p.m. match on Friday, March 23 before making the trip to top-ranked North Carolina for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.

THE HOKIES (10-4, 1-4 ACC)
Virginia Tech looks to bounce back after falling in a close 4-3 match at No. 49 Louisville last weekend. The Hokies won the doubles point and claimed singles wins from Natalie Novotna and Nina Sorkin, but the Cardinals held on the other courts to secure the win.
Novotna enters the weekend ranked 66th in the latest ITA singles standings. She has an 11-3 record this spring at the one. Sorkin is adding a 10-3 tally while Caroline Daxhelet and Katherine Butler are both 9-5. Nika Kozar has posted a 9-4 record. The freshman duo of Kozar and Sorkin is 8-4 in doubles for Tech.
THE PANTHERS (6-6, 0-5 ACC)
Pittsburgh dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 16 Wake Forest the last time out. The Panthers picked up points on courts three and six with wins from Luisa Varon and Natsumi Okamoto.
Callie Frey and Okamoto are 8-3 on the spring while Claudia Bartolome is 7-2. Varon is adding a 5-5 mark. Frey and Camila Moreno are 6-3 in doubles.
THE TAR HEELS (16-1, 5-0 ACC)
North Carolina will face Georgia Tech on Saturday before taking on the Hokies Sunday. The Tar Heels claimed a 4-3 win at No. 22 Florida State last weekend. UNC won the doubles point and picked up wins in the middle of the singles line-up as Makenna Jones, Alexa Graham and Jessie Aney secured the points needed for the team win.
UNC enters the weekend with six players ranked in the ITA standings: Jones, 18th; Alle Sanford, 20th; Sara Daavettila, 27th; Aney, 47th; Graham, 70th; and Chloe Ouellet-Pizar, 103rd. The Tar Heels also have two doubles teams in the standings, Aney/Graham is second while Sanford/Daavettila is 13th. Graham is 16-0 on the spring with Daavettila adding a 14-2 tally.
UP NEXT: The Hokies are at home for two matches beginning with Boston College on Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. Tech will host NC State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
