Tech falls to No. 6 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell at No. 6 North Carolina, 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Alex Ribeiro picked up a point for the Hokies (9-2, 0-1 ACC) on court three where he battled against Simon Soendergaard. The Hokies' sophomore gave up the first set 4-6, but powered back in the second to win it by the same margin. In the super tiebreak, Ribeiro rolled to victory, winning it 10-2.

UNC (10-2, 1-0 ACC) won the doubles point with 6-2 decisions on courts one and three. The Tar Heels took the 2-0 lead with a win at six followed by a win at one where top-ranked William Blumberg faced off against Tech's No. 29 Mitch Harper. Blumberg gave the Tar Heels a 6-4, 6-2 win and a 3-0 lead. UNC clinched the match at five where Henrik Korsgaard fell to Blaine Boyden 6-2, 6-2.

The Hokies will remain in the Triangle to face No. 10 Duke on Sunday, March 4 in a 1 p.m. match in Durham, North Carolina.
