Quick Hitters
Playing in the Pelican State: It's been just four seasons since the Hokies played a game in the state of Louisiana, but more than 20 since competing in New Orleans. In 15 career games in the Pelican State, Tech is just 4-11, but won its last game, 8-2, over Texas Southern on Feb. 22, 2014 during the LSU Tournament in Baton Rouge. Tech had lost the previous night to the hosts, 9-0.

In New Orleans, Tech is just 3-9 but also won its last game here, defeating Tulane, 13-9, back on April 9, 1995, the final game of a three-game series when Tech was in the Metro Conference. Against neutral-site opponents, the Hokies are 1-2, part of the Metro Tournament played here in 1992.

More than a dozen see their first action at Tech: The Hokies, who have 18 newcomers on their roster, saw 16 of them make their Tech debuts last weekend during the Coastal Carolina tournament which including four - junior transfers Luke Horanski, Nick Owens and Nick Menken and freshman Darion Jacoby - started each of them.

For Jacoby (LF), he became the Hokies' first true freshman to start a season opener in the field since Ricky Surum (SS) – Feb. 14, 2014 at The Citadel. He is the first freshman to start the first four games of his Tech career since Alex Perez, who never missed a start during his collegiate career (2012-15).

Fragale earns a pair of preseason AA honors: Senior Sam Fragale, who was a Second Team All-ACC first baseman last season, moved over to third base for the upcoming season and was twice named a preseason All-American at the spot. He earned third team honors by both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.
