Hokie ClubNEW ORLEANS – The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named eight quarterbacks as its “Stars of the Week.” College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.
Jerod Evans completed 13 of 20 passes for 282 yards with three TDs and no interceptions in a 54-17 win over East Carolina, numbers that translated into a 93.5 rating. He also rushed for 97 yards and a 55-yard TD.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award
Evans' performance over the weekend was also noticed by The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award committee, who selects one National Player of the Week and names several honorable mentions. Evans was an Honorable Mention for the second straight week from the organization, as his performance against Boston College was also recognized.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college
