Hokies make first ever visit to the Hoosier State

Virginia Tech will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday as it goes on the road for the first time this season – heading to Purdue and marking the first ever trip to the Hoosier state. Virginia Tech Seeks to Start Winning Streak at Purdue After Big Win vs. Furman

  • Virginia Tech is coming off a 42-3 win vs. Furman (9/12). The Hokies are 2-2 all-time against the “longstanding” 10 members of the Big Ten: 1-1 vs. Ohio State, 1-0 vs. Indiana and 0-1 vs. Michigan. Purdue registered a 38-14 win vs. Indiana St. (9/12).
  • The Hokies have gotten off to fast starts, outscoring their first two foes by a 31-14 margin in the first half in 2015, including a 24-0 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Purdue owns a 45-24 first-half scoring edge in its two games.
  • Tech racked up 299 rushing yards vs. Furman (9/12), averaging 7.3 yards per carry to mark only the eighth time VT has averaged 7.3 yards per carry over better in a game dating back to 2000.
  • QB Brenden Motley made his first career start vs. Furman (9/12), becoming the 12th straight signal caller to win his starting debut under head coach Frank Beamer. WR Isaiah Ford hauled in five passes for 77 yards with two TDs.
  • Motley ranks eighth in the ACC with a 153.0 rating and is 10th in the league, averaging 134.5 passing ypg.
  • Ford is tied for seventh in the ACC with three total TDs and is ninth in the conference, averaging 69.0 receiving ypg.

  • Purdue is 8-24 (.250) at home since the start of the 2000 campaign when allowing 30 points or more.
  • VT is 89-1 (.989) when holding foes to 10 points or less dating back to 1996, including last week’s 42-3 victory.
  • The Boilermakers have lost 26 straight games when being held to 10 points or fewer. Purdue’s last win in such a circumstance was a 9-3 win vs. No. 9 Michigan (11/9/96).
