TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Virginia Tech sophomore Samantha Hill helped lead Canada’s Senior B Women’s Basketball National Team to the title at the 36th Annual William Jones Cup over the summer break.
Hill competed in the event the week prior to returning for the start of the fall semester.
“It was an unreal experience playing basketball in Taiwan,” Hill said. “Everything from the food, to the competition to the crowd was outstanding.”
Hill appeared in all five games for Canada, recording 5.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game as a key reserve averaging 18 minutes per contest.
She started the tournament off strong, dropping in 10 points and handing out three assists in 18 and half minutes in Canada’s 70-63 win over China B Team during the first round of competition.
Against Team USA, Hill turned in her best performance of the tournament, tallying 12 points, four rebounds and two assists in just 15 minutes on the court as Canada picked up the 80-56 win, securing the undefeated record during the Jones Cup.
“It is always an honor to represent Canada and it was an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Hill. “My favorite part of the trip was the fans; they were extremely in to the games, cheering against us, but would lineup outside the locker rooms afterwards to take pictures and get autographs.”
Canada also claimed wins over Japan (79-58), Korea (67-57) and China A Team (73-70).
