BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia tech men’s soccer team plays host to the Navy Midshipmen on Tuesday in an important non-conference tilt.
Tech is 1-4 all-time against the Midshipmen with the most recent match being in 2006.
The Hokies are coming off of an impressive 0-0 draw with then-No.1 North Carolina. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro made six saves in the match while senior forward Robert Alberti recorded four shots.
Alberti leads the Hokies this season on the strength of four goals and two assists. In just six games, the senior has already passed his season-high points mark set in 2010. On the strength of four goals and two assists, Alberti has registered 10 points this season and is currently first in the ACC in shots per game with 4.33, second in the ACC in total shots (26), third in goals (4) and goals per game (0.67) and fourth in points (10) and points per game (1.67).
Renfro is also having a standout season is his own right. The Forest, Va. native is already ranked in the top-three all-time in career shutouts with 11 and is well on his way to cracking the top-five in career saves. Renfro has currently amassed an impressive 242 saves during his tenure at Tech, and is only 47 saves away from the fifth spot in the record books.
The Misdhipmen are 2-3-2 on the season and boast wins over Central Connecticut State and George Washington.
Sophomore Jamie Dubyoski leads Navy with four goals on the season while while junior Joseph Greenspan and freshman Alex Evans boast two goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Aaron Dupere has started all seven matches for the Midshipmen and comes into the match against the Hokies with 22 saves, a 1.49 goals against average and a .688 save percentage.
The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on ESPN3. Live stats will also be available for the match.
