De Jonge to play in World Cup

Virginia Tech golfing great Brendon de Jongehas been selected to the Zimbabwe national team that will compete in the WorldCup later this month in China.

 

The World Cup, a biennial event that matchestwo-man teams based on the Official World Golf Ranking, will be played Nov.24-27, 2011 at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, China. The format will be 72 holes ofstroke play, with four ball play for the first and third rounds and foursomesfor the second and fourth rounds. In all, 28 countries will field teams in thetournament.

 

De Jonge’s partner will be Bruce McDonald, aprofessional on the developmental tours, who just advanced to second stage inthe European Tour Qualifying. De Jonge finished 76th on the PGA Tour’smoney list this season, with $1,241,326 in earnings.

 

De Jonge earned the honor by placing insidethe Top 100 players in world ranking as of the deadline - after the WyndhamChampionship - and as so, had the option to select his own partner.  Heand McDonald have been friends for years and McDonald has caddied for de Jongethe last two years in the Greenbrier Classic.
