Harrison/Tellier earn ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech guard Shanel Harrison earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Dec. 19, while a pair of newcomers in Maryland guard Alyssa Thomas and Virginia Tech guard/forward Monet Tellier shared Rookie of the Week accolades.

The ACC’s weekly accolades are voted on by the league’s “Blue Ribbon Panel,” which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives. The panelists will also vote on the league’s postseason All-Conference teams for the 2010-11 season.

Harrison scored a career-high 25 points, including a career-best three treys, in the Hokies’ come-from-behind 94-78 double-overtime win at William & Mary. The junior from Washington, D.C., hit a game-tying three-pointer with 3.2 seconds remaining in regulation to force the first extra period. Harrison finished the game on 11-of-14 field goal shooting, including a 3-of-4 from behind the arc.

Tellier recorded her first career double-double with career-highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Hokies double-overtime victory at William & Mary. The freshman from Charlotte, N.C., also tied a career-high with four assists. Tellier was one of three Tech players to achieve double-doubles at William & Mary. She was joined by Nikki Davis (Sr., Lexington, Ken.) who had 16 points and a career-high 12 assists along with Alyssa Fenyn’s (So., Newark, N.Y.) 10 points and 10 boards.

Tech returns to action on Tues., Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. against Radford in Cassell Coliseum.
