BLACKSBURG, Va. – In the only public scrimmage of the preseason for the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team, the Maroon team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back in a 78-59 victory in Cassell Coliseum.
Nikki Davis (Sr., Lexington, Ken.) led all scorers with 19 points, including a game-high three treys. Davis also dished out a game-high six assists while pulling down eight rebounds. Brittany Gordon (Sr., Howard County, Md.) added 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Alyssa Fenyn (So., Newark, N.Y.) and Nia Evans (Fr., Decatur, Ga.) added 15 and 11 points respectively.
Taylor Ayers, (So., Augusta, Ga.), who averaged under six minutes a game in her freshman season, continued to show marked improvment in leading the Orange with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Shanel Harrison (Jr., Washington, D.C.) and Aerial Wilson (So., Cocoa, Fla.) added 10 points each in a losing effort.
The Hokies open the 2010-11 schedule on Nov. 12 hosting Presbyterian at 5:30 p.m.
