BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball program has released its 2009 schedule, one that is highlighted by 15 home matches to be played in Cassell Coliseum. Tech opens the season on Aug. 28 with the first of two home tournaments, taking on Liberty, Montana and UNC Greensboro in the first one and Norfolk State, Arkansas and East Carolina the following weekend in the second one.
The Hokies will then travel to our nation’s capital to play in a tournament hosted by American University before heading to Charlottesville for the Marriott Cavalier Invitational. The unique two-day event will have the Hokies facing Albany and Villanova, but also opening up ACC play with a match against the Cavaliers.
The rest of the way is all ACC play with the first five conference matches being played on the road. The Hokies return home on Oct. 8 for a four-match home stand over a two-weekend span, taking on NC State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
A Halloween night contest against Florida State caps a big weekend against the Seminoles and Miami. Duke and Wake Forest come calling on Nov. 13 and 14, respectively, and the Hokies end the regular season against UVa on Nov. 25 at home, just days before the annual football game between the two schools.
Tech is coming off a 20-11 overall record in 2008, 11-9 in the ACC.
