BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Athletics Department has announced the signing of women's basketball player Taylor Ayers to a national letter of intent for the 2009-2010 academic year. Ayers is the fifth signee of the year.
Ayers, a 6-2, center from Augusta, Ga., averaged 21.0 points and 14.0 rebounds at Laney High School for coach Otis Smart. She was named to the Georgia 2A all-state team and was the Region 2A Player of the Year. Ayers was selected to the 2008 Myrtle Beach all-tournament team and was named to the Richmond County All-Academic team.
“We are extremely excited to have Taylor joining our program, ” said Virginia Tech head coach Beth Dunkenberger. "She’s a fierce rebounder with excellent hands, and we think she’ll help us in the paint immediately.”
Ayers joins 6-3, center/forward Porshcia Hadley from Montezuma, Ga., 6-0, guard Alyssa Fenyn from Newark, N.Y., 6-0, forward Abby Redick from Roanoke, Va., and 5-8, guard Aerial Wilson from Cocoa, Fla., who all signed with the Hokies during the fall signing period.
