BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior Queen Harrison and sophomore Marcel Lomnicky received ACC Women’s and Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week honors, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday, after the duo won titles at the Texas Relays on April 4.
Harrison won the 400-meter hurdle crown at the Texas Relays, her first performance since injuring her hamstring during the indoor season. The Richmond, Va., native clocked a regional-qualifying time of 57.38 to win the event, after running a 59.37 in windy conditions in the prelims.
Lomnicky, also competing in his first outdoor competition of the season, captured the victory in the hammer throw with a regional-qualifying toss of 235-03. The throw ranks Lomnicky tops in the nation and second among Tech’s all-time performers in the event, behind only former Hokie Spyridon Jullien.
Lomnicky is scheduled to compete in the hammer throw at the Sea Ray Relays this weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., to prepare for the ACC Championships on April 16-18. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following each day of the meet.
