BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech hurdler Queen Harrison was named Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Women’s Track and Field Performer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, for her standout performances at the Penn State National on Jan. 30-31.
Harrison, a junior from Richmond, Va., captured the 60-meter hurdle and 400-meter dash titles, her first time competing in either event this season, at the meet. In the 60-meter hurdles, Harrison ran an 8.13 and an 8.06 in the preliminaries and semifinals of the race, respectively. The Hermitage High alum then sprinted a meet-record and personal-best 8.02 in the finals of the race to secure the victory on Friday. The time also automatically qualified Harrison for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14 in College Station, Texas.
The next day, Harrison clocked a provisional-qualifying 53.67 in the invitational section of the 400-meter dash to earn her second win in as many days. Harrison’s 53.67 in the 400-meter dash is currently the third-fastest in the nation, while the 8.02 in the 60-meter hurdles ranks second in the country.
Harrison and the rest of the Hokie track and field squads will return to action of Friday and Saturday for the VT Elite Meet at the Rector Field House. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of the meet both days.
