Willoughby earns All-AVCA East Region honors

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech sophomore Felicia Willoughby has earned All-AVCA East Region honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday, adding another honor in the Pleasanton, Calif., native’s stellar 2008 campaign.

Willoughby was named first team All-ACC after leading the conference in hitting percentage on the season, striking at a .402 clip. The mark also set the school record for highest season hitting percentage, shattering the old mark of .357 set by Julie Neely in 1986. Willoughby led Tech in kills with 326, and blocks with 117, on the year as well.

This is the third regional honor for Willoughby in her career. In 2007, the Foothill High School alum received All-AVCA East Region honorable mention recognition and was selected the East Region Freshman of the Year.

Willoughby is the second Hokie to earn All-East Region honors. Katie Esbrook received All-East Region status in 2006. As a result of being named all-region, Willoughby is guaranteed at least honorable mention All-America recognition.
