BLACKSBURG, Va. – Emmanuel Daux has been named assistant track and field coach, the Virginia Tech athletics department announced Tuesday. Daux will be in charge of the sprints and hurdles units for the Hokies.
“I am extremely pleased to have Emmanuel Daux join our coaching staff,” Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli said. “He did an outstanding job at Hampton with the sprints and hurdles, and he is a great fit for our current team.”
Daux takes over for Lawrence Johnson, who was named the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at Clemson University in July.
Before coming to Tech, Daux was the interim head coach at Hampton University during the 2007-08 season. He spent 2006 as an assistant coach with Pirates, after being promoted from a volunteer assistant coach during the 2005 campaign. In his time at Hampton, Daux mentored six Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champions, four All-East regional athletes, two All-Americans and the Male Academic Athlete of the Year for Hampton University.
In the 2004-05 academic year, Daux was a graduate assistant at his alma mater Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. While there, he assisted with the development of fundamental track and field techniques, compiled academic and athletic performance reports, created training plans, and assisted with scheduling meets, coordinating media appearances and maintaing the budget. Daux also spent a year at Gold’s Gym in Newport News, Va., as a personal trainer and coach.
Daux received a bachelor’s of science degree in physical education, with a specialization in exercise science and physical fitness from SIU. He earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors four times in Carbondale, and was a two-time All-Mid East Regional participant.
Daux spent two years at Wallace State College in Hanceville, Ala., before heading to Southern Illinois, where he was a four-time Junior College All-American, and participated in the North American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Championships. He attended high school at Linden High School in Linden, N.J.
