Hokies fall in five-set thriller

Huntington, W. Va.- A furious rally from the Hokies volleyball squad fell short, as Tech dropped its second consecutive five-set match to Western Kentucky 3-2 (18-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20, 11-15) Saturday morning in Huntington, W. Va.

The Hokies (3-2, 0-0 ACC) lost the first two sets of the match to the Hilltoppers (5-0, 0-0), 17-25 and 18-25. Tech recovered though, and forced a fifth set with consecutive 25-20 wins in sets three and four. The Hokies stayed close in the fifth frame, but could never gain the lead, and Western Kentucky staved off the comeback with a 15-11 win in the final set.

Junior Betsy Horowitz and sophomore Felicia Willoughby both had 11 kills and freshman Justine Record added 10 in the match. Freshman Erin Leaser tallied 35 assists in the effort.

Tech will take on East Tennessee State at 4:30 p.m. later today. Results for both matches will be posted on Hokiesports.com.
