GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech placed three players on the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Tennis Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Inga Beermann (Jr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany),Yasmin Hamza (Fr., Cairo, Egypt) and Jessica Long (Sr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) were named to the academic squad. Beermann was named to the team for the third consecutive year.
Beermann played at the top of the Tech lineup again this year and faced some of the top players in the nation. She posted 18 singles victories and was ranked No. 16 in the East Region. Additionally, Beermann was a second team selection to the VaSID All-State women's tennis team. Hamza joined the Hokies in the spring and recorded 15 singles victories while earning a No. 22 East Region ranking. Long concluded her Tech career with 21 wins, second most on the team, and was ranked No. 28 in the East Region.
Georgia Tech, Miami and Virginia Tech each placed three players on this year's All-ACC Academic Women's Tennis Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
