Green advances to match play at State Amateur

Virginia Tech golfer GarlandGreen finished stroke play tied for fourth place at the 95th Virginia StateGolf Association's Amateur Championship at the 6,831 yards, par-71 KingsmillResort & Spa’s River Course on Wednesday.

Green was the first dayleader with a five-under-par 66 and shot a 73 on Wednesday for a two-day totalof 139. Daniel Hurley of Leesburg led at the end of stroke play at 135.

Green, a rising sophomorefrom Tazewell, Va., will play Adam Webb of Ridgeway at 8:16a.m., on Thursday morning. The first two rounds will be played on Thursday, the quarterfinals andsemifinals are Friday and the scheduled 36-hole championship match on Saturday.

Teammate Aaron Eckstein, a rising sophomore from Salem, shot a 72 onWednesday and failed to advance to match play.
