Pete Moris joined Virginia Tech’s staff in May 2015 and enters his seventh season in Blacksburg in 2021. Moris oversees public relations efforts for Tech Athletics and works closely with the Athletics executive staff and university relations officials. He serves as a spokesperson for Tech Athletics and is the lead public relations and media contact for head coach Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech football program. During his tenure with the Hokies, he has celebrated the career of Hall of Fame coach Frank Beamer and assisted over 20 Tech players prepare for the media spotlight of the NFL, in addition to helping Tech Athletics launch its $400 million Reach For Excellence campaign in April 2021.
Owning an extensive resume of experience in communications and sports media, he joined Tech after a three-year stint as assistant athletics director for communications at the University of Oklahoma (2012-14). During his tenure with the Sooners, he worked directly with the football program and head coach Bob Stoops. He also served as a member of the Big 12 Conference’s public relations teams that hosted the 2014 Final Four and the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship Game at AT&T Stadium.
The Mt. Hope, Wisconsin native spent 17 seasons working in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs. During that span, Moris built relationships with numerous players and coaches who are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and developed campaigns that helped Will Shields (2003) and Brian Waters (2009) earn the league’s most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, for their charitable and philanthropic efforts. In addition, Moris played a key role in the rebranding of Arrowhead Stadium as part of a $375 million transformation that was unveiled in 2010. He also worked as part of the NFL’s public relations team at Super Bowls XLV, XXXVII and XXXII.
Moris has also provided his expertise in the communications field as a consultant to a number of clients, including Nike, STATS LLC and the University of Wisconsin. A former collegiate student-athlete, Moris served as a team captain of the Loras College men’s basketball team. He graduated from Loras with degrees in English writing and public relations and returned to campus in 2018 as the keynote speaker of the Loras Sport Management Symposium. He began his professional career as a public relations intern with the Indianapolis Colts and has been part of bowl victories working with the football programs at Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of three children.
