AUBURN, Ala. --Junior Bre Peck collected four RBIs to help lead the No. 23 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Belmont Bruins 13-1 on Saturday.
Freshman Emma Mazzarone (1-0) picked up her first career win for. The left-hander went five innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing four walks and striking out three.
Peck went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs for the Hokies. Freshman Emily LeGette put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Cameron Fagan also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate with a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Peck and a two-run double from senior Addy Greene.
The Hokies then held the Bruins scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of freshman Michelle Chatfield and a two-run double from Fagan, which brought the Hokies lead to 12-1.
Virginia Tech kept Belmont without a run before expanding their lead to 13-1 the following inning. The Hokies added a run on LeGette's two-out solo home run off junior Rayna Cruickshanks. The score remained 13-1 for the rest of the game, as Virginia Tech coasted to the win.
