BLACKSBURG – Six student-athletes from the Virginia Tech women's soccer team have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, announced the organization on Tuesday.
The Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA, have a minimum of one year completed at their current institution, and be a starter or key reserve player, athletically.
Junior Allie George started in 18 matches for the Hokies during the 2023 season. George recorded 10 shots throughout the season, for a combined 37 career shots, two goals and two assists.
She currently holds a 3.67 GPA majoring in marketing management.
Sophomore Natalie Mitchell leads the Hokies with a 3.88 GPA majoring in criminology. Mitchell recently earned third team All-ACC honors recording nine goals and one assist during the 2023 regular season. She ranked fourth in goals in the ACC and tied for 22nd in the NCAA in shot accuracy (.611). She recorded her first career brace in the Hokies 2-1 victory match against Boston College.
Junior Emma Pelkowski recorded her first career brace during the 4-0 shutout over Syracuse. Her two goals and one assist against Syracuse earned her a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer women's team of the week. Pelkowski has made 56 career appearances for the Hokies logging seven goals and 11 assists. She is currently majoring in psychology.
Goalkeeper Alia Skinner returned to the pitch this season recording seven shutouts in 18 matches for the Hokies. Skinner logged 1,620 minutes this past season making 79 saves. She ended the regular season ranked second in the ACC with a save percentage of .823 allowing only 17 goals. She will be graduating in December with a bachelors degree in management.
Junior Eden Skyers recorded her first career goal on a corner kick versus NC State (4-1). Skyers, a defender from London, England, started in all of Tech's matches this season proving to be a vital part of the Hokies' defense. She logged 1,570 minutes of play, third highest on the team. Skyers transferred to Tech with a 3.63 GPA majoring in psychology.
Defender Averi Visage currently holds a 3.84 GPA in her final month before graduation. She will be graduating in December with her bachelors degree in management consulting and analytics. Visage made 67 career appearances for the Hokies starting in 60 matches during her four years with the program. Visage started in three NCAA Tournament matches for the Hokies including the 3-1 first round victory over Ohio State in 2021.
