The Virginia Tech football team is hitting the road to face No. 15 Louisville at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, following two crucial victories at home in Blacksburg.
 
Tech's matchup with Louisville will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2020 and will mark the ninth time the teams have met on the football field. The Hokies lead the series 6-2 against the Cardinals.

Oct. 31, 2020 – Virginia Tech 42, Louisville 35 (Louisville, Ky.)
Virginia Tech emerged victorious at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, securing their first win in Kentucky since 1979 by defeating Louisville 42-35. The Hokies' quarterback, Hendon Hooker, delivered a standout performance, completing all 10 of his pass attempts for 183 yards and rushing for three touchdowns. Hooker finished with a career-high 19 rushing attempts for 68 yards, in addition to the Hokies' season-high 51 rushing attempts. Running back Khalil Herbert led the team in rushing yards, gaining 150 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown. Tayvion Robinson finished second in receiving yards, accumulating 42 yards on a catch from Hooker. On the defensive side of the ball, the squad was fired up on the sidelines following defensive lineman Justus Reed's sack of Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham on the first play of the game. Cornerback Devin Taylor intercepted a pass in the first quarter, gaining 12 yards, which set up one of Hooker's touchdowns. Additionally, defensive back Chamarri Conner and linebacker Divine Diablo registered two more interceptions.

Jan. 2, 2006 – No. 12 Virginia Tech 35, No. 15 Louisville 24 – (Jacksonville, Fla.)
In the 2006 Gator Bowl, Tech staged a comeback to defeat No. 15 Louisville, securing another bowl victory. Hokies quarterback Marcus Vick threw two touchdown passes, one of which was a 33-yard pass to wide receiver Justin Harper. Contributing 69 receiving yards, fellow wide receiver David Clowney made an impressive 54-yard catch from Vick, setting up running back Cedric Humes' 24-yard rushing touchdown on the following play. Humes led the team in rushing yards, tallying up 119 yards. Tech's defense excelled with three interceptions, which came from linebacker James Anderson as well as cornerbacks Roland Minor and Brandon Flowers.
