BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Will Johnson will wear the No. 25 jersey during the away game against Marshall.
Saturday's contest will be Johnson's first-time wearing Beamer's iconic number. The redshirt sophomore has played in his first bit of game action this year after missing the 2022 season due to injury. In 62 snaps so far this season on both defense and special teams, Johnson has amassed seven tackles with his best stat line coming against Old Dominion in the season opener.
"It's extremely special for me to wear No. 25 this weekend against Marshall. Extremely humbled and grateful for the opportunity," Johnson said.
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
