Hokies add pitcher Cassie Grizzard to 2023-24 roster

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech softball team and head coach Pete D'Amour announced the addition of Cassie Grizzard to the 2024 roster on Wednesday afternoon. Grizzard joins the Hokies from Louisville, spending one season with the Cardinals.
 
A left-handed pitcher from Midlothian, Virginia, Grizzard made 15 appearances in the circle for Louisville during the 2023 season. In 27 innings of work, she racked up 29 strikeouts, holding opponents to a .222 batting average.
 
Grizzard's first collegiate start was a five-inning shutout in the 13-0 run-rule of Bellarmine. During ACC play, she posted a career-high five strikeouts in the win over Pitt. She also retired all three batters she faced against No. 16 Kentucky. She earned All-ACC Academic Team honors in 2023.
 
At Midlothian High School, Grizzard was named First Team All-Region and Regional Player of the Year as a senior. She also earned All-Metro and All-State honors in 2022, in addition to First Team All-Region (2021) and First Team All-Metro (2021).
 
As a junior in 2021, Grizzard posted a 1.02 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 85 innings. She followed that up with another standout year as a senior in 2022, racking up 194 strikeouts in 110 innings of work. Grizzard had a .176 batting average against and a 1.65 ERA.
 
Grizzard played travel ball with the Hanover Hornets and Louisville Lady Sluggers. Pitching for the Hornets, the left-hander recorded a 1.90 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. She held opponents to a .175 batting average against. Grizzard was named a member of the All-Tournament Team for the SEFL Fall Championship as a member of the Sluggers.
