Lemley named Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top-10 finalist

LOUISVILLE, Ky.Emma Lemley has been named a Top-10 finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA National Division I Freshman of the Year, the NFCA announced Thursday afternoon.
 
The winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 31, prior to the start of the 2022 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
 
The field will be narrowed to three on May 26. The 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 31. The list of 25 was selected by the NFCA. The top 10, top three and winner are voted on by the NFCA Division I All-America Committee.
 
Lemley was recently named the ACC Freshman of the Year, as well as First Team All-ACC and a member of the All-Freshman team. She finished the regular season with a 15-4 record and a 6-2 mark in ACC play with two saves. The right-hander had three shutouts in ACC play, including then-No. 14/9 Clemson, Louisville and Boston College to clinch the regular season championship.
 
The freshman struck out 83 batters in her 51.1 innings pitched in conference play, allowing just 19 earned runs. On the season, Lemley is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per seven innings which is first in the ACC and third in the NCAA. She has 187 total strikeouts and is allowing just 3.97 hits per seven innings. The right-hander also earned ACC Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
