DURHAM, N.C. – Virginia Tech fell to ninth-ranked Duke on Sunday afternoon in its second-consecutive match against a top-10 opponent.

The Hokies hung around in doubles, as Court 1 and Court 2 were tight to the finish. Katie Andreini and Annie Clark battled back after falling early, but ultimately fell 7-5. Erika Cheng and Rita Pinto drew their match to a tiebreaker but fell 7-6 (2).

In singles, Virginia Tech struggled to gain any ground on the Blue Devils, which contained three players ranked No. 53 or higher.

The tightest match of the afternoon came from Cheng on Court 4 against No. 53 Emma Jackson. Cheng took the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, but Jackson fired back in the second. The team match had been decided, so the two settled the third set in a super tiebreaker, which Jackson ultimately won.

Virginia Tech will take the court again on March 18 against Miami in Blacksburg, Va.
