BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech fell to No. 10 Miami, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Semra Aksu picked up the lone point for the Hokies, as she picked up a three-set victory on Court 6.
The Hokies dropped the doubles point after falling on Court 1 and Court 2 to the Hurricanes' two ranked doubles teams. Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som provided consolation for Tech in the doubles competition, as they grabbed a 6-2 win on Court 3.
In singles, Miami jumped ahead early with straight set wins on Court 2 and Court 5 before clinching the match on Court 1.
Tech was not shut out, however, as Aksu battled on Court 6 for a three-set win. After going up 6-3 in the first set, her opponent blanked her in the second, setting the freshman up for a 6-3 third set.
Virginia Tech will take the court against No. 59 Florida State on Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
