Notable Numbers: Tech Women’s Basketball prepares for NCAA Tournament run

After a semifinal run at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to begin its pursuit of a national championship this weekend.

The Hokies earned the No. 5 seed in the Spokane Region and will take on No. 12 seed Florida Gulf Coast in a first-round matchup this Friday, March 18, in College Park, Maryland. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Before Tech hits the floor later this week, take a look back at some of the notable numbers from the Hokies' historic season.

2Virginia Tech earned a bid to the Big Dance for the second consecutive season. The Hokies reached the NCAA Tournament for four straight years from 2003-06 and returned to March Madness last season following a 15-year drought.

5Virginia Tech received the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, its highest seed since earning the No. 4 seed back in 1999. This is the first time Tech has been the No. 5 seed in its tournament history.

13The Hokies won 13 regular season ACC games, the program's most all-time in a single season. Tech finished the year tied for third in the league standings and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time in program history.

15Junior center Elizabeth Kitley has recorded 15 double-doubles so far this season en route to earning ACC Player of the Year honors. The Summerfield, North Carolina native is averaging 17.4 points per game and 9.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54.8% from the field.

275One of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country, Virginia Tech has made an ACC-best 275 3-pointers on the season, its most since the 2018-19 campaign. Florida Gulf Coast, the Hokies' opponent in the opening round, leads the nation with 367 made 3-point field goals.

1,874Graduate guard Aisha Sheppard enters the Big Dance with 1,874 career points, the most by a player in Virginia Tech's history. She became the program's all-time leading scorer back on Feb. 20, passing Virginia Tech Athletics Hall of Famer Renee Dennis. A week earlier, Sheppard became the ACC's leader in career 3-pointers  and now has 399 triples in her career.
