Tech drops opening ACC contest 14-11 at Louisville

The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (2-3, 0-1) fell 14-11 to Louisville in the ACC opener for both clubs Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
The Hokies won the opening draw and got on the board first through Hannah Mardiney just over a minute into the contest. Louisville would strike back before consecutive Hokie goals from Oliva Vergano and Sophie Student gave Tech a two-goal advantage. At the end of the first, VT led by one.

Louisville would score four of the last six goals in the half, including a tying goal with four seconds to go as both teams headed into the locker room with six first half tallies.

In the second half, the Cardinals would score the first two to take the lead and after Tech later tied it up at 8-8, Louisville's 3-0 run gave them a lead they would not squander from that point on.

Three Cardinals; Hannah Morris, Caroline Blalock and Nicole Perroni scored hat tricks in the game.

For the Hokies; Student, Mardiney, Vergano and Claire Schotta each scored twice.Gallery: (2-26-2022) LAX: at Louisville
