SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team took its second loss of the weekend, falling to Syracuse in three sets on Sunday. The Orange move to 3-1 in ACC play and 14-2 overall. The Hokies are now 9-7 on the season.
The first two sets were tight battles until the end as Syracuse pulled away to take both sets 25-17. The third and final set was all Syracuse as the Orange jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back. The Hokies were within seven at 15-8 but were unable to rally.
Marina Markova and Polina Shemanova were the leaders for Syracuse, each posting 10 kills on the day. The Orange also had 12 total blocks compared to four by the Hokies. Lauren Hogan ended her day with 12 digs and Elena Karakasi added 17 assists.
For the Hokies, Cera Powell had a solid match with 10 kills, posting a .250 hitting percentage. Griere Hughes also added six kills. Logan Mosley finished her match with 14 digs and Brie Postema was the assist leader with 23.
Virginia Tech returns to action next weekend, taking on NC State on Friday at 7 p.m. and North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
