Four Hokies named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Four members of the Virginia Tech women's soccer team were recognized on the 2020-21 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced by the league office Wednesday. The junior quartet of Emily Gray, Karlie Johnson, Grace Sklopan and Emma Steigerwald were honored by the conference for their performance in the classroom and on the pitch this season.
 
Majoring in sports media and analytics, Gray is currently interning with the Philadelphia Union of the MLS. The Sewell, New Jersey native was one of three Hokies to start in each of Tech's 17 games. She led the team in points (26), goals (nine) and assists (eight) on her way to All-ACC Third Team honors. Gray was also recognized on the United Soccer Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Second Team.
 
Johnson, a human nutrition, foods and exercise major, started in 10 of Tech's 17 matches. The Keller, Texas native logged 792 minutes while posting six points (two goals and two assists). She scored the opening goals against Pittsburgh and Miami.
 
A public relations major, Sklopan logged the most minutes by a Tech player this season (1,489). She totaled four shots on the season, including two at Liberty.
 
Anchoring the backline for the Hokies, Steigerwald joined Gray as one of only three Hokies to start in each of Tech's 17 games. The marketing management major logged the fifth-most minutes on the team (1,383). She also fired the third-most shots on the team (18) while tallying two goals, including the game-winner at Boston College.
