SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Virginia Tech posted a 304 in Saturday's second round and is tied for 21st through 36 holes of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.
The Hokies, who were playing in the second wave of groups, battled windy conditions all afternoon at Grayhawk Golf Club – Raptor Course (par 72, 6,384 yards). They are tied with Kentucky at 30-over 606. The top 15 teams at the conclusion of Sunday's third round will advance to the fourth round of stroke play, which is set for Monday. Michigan and South Carolina are currently inside the cut line at 24-over, six shots clear of Tech.
Emily Mahar continues to lead the Hokies after signing for a 1-over 73. Her two-day total of 3-over 147 is tied for 34th. Keerattriya Foocharoen is tied for 81st at 152, followed by Becca DiNunzio in a tie for 96th at 154. Jessica Spicer, who manufactured the second-best round on Saturday by a Tech golfer, is tied for 105th at 155. Alyssa Montgomery rounds out the lineup in a tie for 120th at 158.
Stanford's Rachel Heck backed up her opening-round 69 with a 5-under 67 on Saturday to extend her lead in the individual race to five shots. Duke's Gina Kim matched Heck's 67 in the second round to climb 36 spots into a tie for second with Louisville's Lauren Hartlage at 3-under 141.
The Hokies will be paired with Auburn and Maryland for Sunday's third round, which will commence at 3:36 p.m. ET for the group.
