BLACKSBURG — The 16th-ranked Virginia Tech women's golf team will head to the ACC Women's Golf Championship this week as the fifth seed, its highest seeding for the conference tournament in program history. The championship will take place from April 15-18 and will be contested at the 6,089-yard, par 72 Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Despite the challenges presented by a global pandemic, the Hokies are putting together one of the best seasons in program history. They have already earned the program's highest national ranking (No. 15) and have finished runner-up in their last two events – the Clemson Invitational and the Cavalier Match Play.
Tech will once again travel with Becca DiNunzio, Emily Mahar, Keerattriya Foocharoen, Alyssa Montgomery and Jessica Spicer. DiNunzio and Mahar are ranked 31st and 45th, respectively, by Golfstat.
The format of the championship will feature 36 holes on Thursday and 18 holes on Friday. The top four teams at the conclusion of the stroke play portion of the tournament will advance to match play, which begins with the semifinals on Saturday. Sunday's championship match is set for a 9 a.m. start and will be streamed on ACCNX.
The 2021 event will mark the 32nd ACC Championship in league history and the 10th appearance at Sedgefield Country Club.
Duke, which is currently listed at No. 2 in the most recent Golfstat rankings, will enter as the top seed in the conference championship. No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 8 Florida State and No. 11 Virginia are seeded 2-4.
The Hokies will be paired with Virginia and Clemson for Thursday's 36 holes. Their tee times will go from 8 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. off hole No. 10.
