Tech falls to No. 1 North Carolina

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 4-1, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Hokies (4-12, 0-9 ACC) got off to a good start in doubles, as graduate student Shene Disbergen and junior Rita Pinto downed the No. 39 duo of Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran. The point was clinched for the Tar Heels on Court 1.

The Tar Heels (18-0, 8-0 ACC) fielded six ranked players in their singles lineup. Senior Nina Sorkin downed No. 121 ranked Elizabeth Scotty 6-2, 2-0 on Court 4 after Scotty had to retire due to injury. North Carolina claimed the match with straight sets on Court 6, Court 4, and Court 1. 

The Hokies will return to action Saturday to face William & Mary (2-5, 1-1 CAA) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
