BLACKSBURG - Back in Cassell Coliseum, the Virginia Tech volleyball team could not get it done as they came up short 3-0 against No. 23 Georgia Tech on Friday afternoon.
Tech moves to 5-7 on the season and 4-7 in the conference. The Yellow Jackets improve to 10-2 overall and 9-2 in ACC play. The Hokies ran into a red hot Georgia Tech squad as it has won ten of its last eleven games.
Tech received key contributions from outside hitter Kaity Smith who had an all-around performance with nine kills, two aces and eight digs. Angel Robinson added nine kills and Tasha Vipond put down three kills.
Setter Brie Postema & Mara Perry combined for 21 assists as both dished out double-figures assists. As a team, the Hokies combined for five aces and Postema recorded two on the day.
Georgia Tech received key contributions from outside hitters Mariana Brambilla and Julia Bergmann as both reached double figures in kills. Brambilla tallied 13 kills and Bergmann collected 15 kills in the victory. Isabella D'Amico dished out a team-high 23 assists. The Yellow Jackets, as a team, had 37 assists compared to Techs 24.
MATCH NOTES
- Robinson nearly notched her career high as she put down nine kills against the Yellow Jackets. Robinson now has 49 total kills on the season.
- Freshman Mara Perry dished out ten assists against Georgia Tech. Perry now has a total of 34 assists over her last three outings.
- Kaity Smith had two aces against Georgia Tech and now has 11 on the year.
