KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mahar recorded the eighth top-10 finish of her career in leading the Hokies to a sixth-place showing at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. The two-day event concluded Monday at the par 72, 6,021-yard Turtle Point Golf Club.

It was an ACC-heavy leaderboard, as Tech was one of five league members to finish in the top six. Wake Forest, ranked seventh by Golfstat, cruised to a 28-shot victory over runner-up Virginia. The Demon Deacons carded a 10-over 874, which included a 1-under 287 in the final round. Duke (903), Clemson (904) and Furman (909) followed the Cavaliers' 54-hole ledger of 902. Tech recorded a three-round total of 910 (307-304-299).

Mahar, a senior from Brisbane, Australia, registered 10 birdies over her 54 holes en route to a tie for ninth place at 225 (73-75-77). It was her first top-10 since the Icon Invitational (Feb. 24-25, 2020). Her 10 birdies were tied for fourth-best in the field.

For the second straight tournament, Becca DiNunzio notched a top-20 effort – tying for 20th at 228 (81-72-75). The sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, led the field with 43 pars – four more than the nearest competitor.

Keerattriya Foocharoen signed for the best final round scorecard by the Hokies. The junior's 1-over 73 allowed her to tie for 28th at 231. Jessica Spicer (T33rd) and Alyssa Montgomery (39th) logged 54-hole ledgers of 233 and 236, respectively.

Eleventh-ranked Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest edged teammate Lauren Walsh for the individual title. On the strength of a 3-under 69 in the final round, Kuehn finished at even-par 216 for the tournament.

The Hokies return to competition, March 13-14, at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The 54-hole event will be hosted by Augusta at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
