10 Hokies earn ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition

The Virginia Tech women's tennis team was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, along with ten student-athletes being recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The Hokies named ITA Scholar-Athletes include: Shiran Arol Wiegand, Rita Pinto, Erika Cheng, Elizabet Danailova, Shene Disbergen, Lily Hackbirth, Nika Kozar, Sophie Mitchell, Natalie Novotna, and Nina Sorkin.

This is the third year that Nika Kozar and Natalie Novotna have been recognized as Scholar-Athletes, and the second time for Rita Pinto, Elizabet Danailova, and Shene Disbergen.
 
The Hokies have been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team for four consecutive years.

In order to be named a Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the current academic year, and to be named an All-Academic Team, the program must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher. 
 
The spring semester was a success academically for Tech, as the team had an average GPA of 3.81, the highest of any program at Virginia Tech.
